wereare always saying I need a GF. And I'm all "But I don't like anyone in a want-to-date way."Seriously, though, this page returns to the "Debbie questions Maria about being lesbian" arc and intersects it with the "Rain and Emily getting to know one another" sequence that just began. I am curious as to what's possessing Debbie to ask Maria so many questions. I don't think it's the case that she's lesbian herself; rather, she's probably never met a lesbian before, so she's curious. The very concept is foreign to her, and she wants to learn more about it... I mean, we haven't learned that much about Debbie, but that's my take on it, at least. Or - and this might be a stretch - maybe she wants to know what girls Maria likes in order to know what she should change about herself in order to get noticed by a guy. I imagine she'd feel more comfortable asking another girl whom she likes than she would be asking a guy whom he likes; then again, that all hinges on Debbie actually being interested in a relationship, which she hasn't hinted at yet. All we know of Debbie so far is that she's one of Emily's crew and that she's rather snarkastic; perhaps these short conversations are indicative of character traits to be further developed later on.
As far as Rain and Emily befriending one another... honestly, I would have never expected this. So far, Emily's been persistent about perfection, seemingly obsessed with herself. And after Rain's costume and the kiss with Rudy, I'm surprised that Emily doesn't hold a grudge. Of course, I won't deny the possibility that she actually does hold a grudge, and she's trying to get close to Rain to hurt her, or at least "figure her out". Still, if Emily were trying that, she'd probably be more intent on actively befriending her, rather than just conversing and finding out that they get along. It seems to have formed naturally enough, and be genuine enough. Perhaps breaking up with Chase and having her party "ruined" humbled her. Or, maybe she's been this way all along, and we've only seen one part of her personality.
And as for Maria moving on... this actually invalidates a previous prediction I made, that Maria's coming out may have been partially because she wanted to go out with Rain. It seems she did it all for herself, after all. I don't think she's going to get over her, though; not completely. Maria and Gavin are in similar boats, it seems - both want to be more-than-friends with Rain, but try to suppress such feelings, to keep their friendships with Rain (and Rain's happiness) intact.
Another interesting page, for sure. A new friendship, an internal struggle, and fringe characters becoming more defined? Sounds like a recipe for some plot and/or character development!
